Saving, sharing & printing
On a smartphone: On narrow screens you find Duplicate, Share, Print and Settings bundled behind the ⋮ icon (menu at the top right of the list). Only "Edit" stays directly visible.
Saving & settings
Via "Save" or the settings icon you create a list or change its settings. Fields:
- Name (required)
- Your name (optional) – as the author
- Tags (optional) – assign the list to one or more themes (e.g. "Summer", "City trip", "Camping"). Tags help you find lists again in the overview (see "Tags & filter" under "My lists") and are shown in the list itself below the description.
- Public/private (default: private) – see "Visibility" below
- Password options – see Password & collaboration
The description as well as destination and travel period of the list are not edited here, but directly on the list via the pencil icon on the info block (see Creating a packing list).
On saving for the first time you get a confirmation dialog. It clearly highlights that the (secret) link is the only access to your list, shows it as a copyable link and is divided into two areas:
- "How to find your list again" – copy the link or save it (on desktop via a
keyboard shortcut, e.g.
⌘ + D/Ctrl + D) as a bookmark. A note reminds you that the list also appears under "Your saved packing lists" as long as you use the same browser. - "Share the list with others" – share the link via your device's share function (or copy it). A note explains what recipients can do with the link (see "Sharing").
When updating an existing list, a subtle "Updated" note confirms the save.
Sharing
Via the share icon you open a dialog with the link to the list. You can pass the link on via your device's share function or copy it. A note explains what is possible with the link:
- Without password: whoever gets the link can view and edit the list.
- With password: whoever gets the link can view and check off – editing requires your password.
The preview when sharing the link (title and description, as they appear e.g. in social networks, messengers or search engines) is built from your list: the title from the list name, the description from destination, travel period and – if available – your description. Missing details are omitted, overly long texts are truncated.
Visibility (public/private)
With the option "may be publicly listed" you can release a list for a (future) public listing. The default is private. Visibility and password are independent of each other: a list can be public and still protect editing with a password.
Duplicating
Via "Duplicate list" you create a copy (name with the suffix "(copy)") that opens in a new tab. In the copy all check marks are reset; notes and "to do" texts are kept. A password is not carried over – the copy is initially unprotected. Ideal for reusing a proven list for the next trip.
Printing
Via "Print list" you produce a print-friendly output; controls such as buttons and filters are hidden in the process.
"My lists" on the home page
Saved lists appear on the home page as a tile overview with statistics, an action menu and a tag filter. How it works is described in its own chapter, My lists (home page).
