Password & collaboration

A packing list can be used together via its link. This chapter explains what the password protects and how the app behaves when several people use the same list at the same time.

Password protection

When saving you can set a password. It protects editing, the settings and deleting the list. Checking off stays possible for everyone – unless you additionally enable the option "also protect checking off/buying": then the list is effectively released for viewing only, and setting a status (packed/to buy/to do) also requires the password.

Further points:

  • Setting/changing: enter the password in the save dialog. An empty field leaves an existing password unchanged.
  • Removing: the "remove password" option only appears if the list is already protected.
  • Entry per session: the app remembers a password you entered once for the current session – you aren't asked again on every action.
  • Viewing is open: a protected list can be viewed without a password; only a protected action (e.g. editing) asks for it.

Checking off together

Several people can check off via the same link at the same time. Checked-off entries are not lost – the check marks of everyone involved are merged. Changes are saved automatically in the background.

Editing together and the editing lock

The structure (sections, categories, items) can only ever be edited by one person at a time. If a second person tries to switch to edit mode, the note "Someone is editing the list" appears together with a countdown until automatic release; after that, access is retried automatically.

When a conflict occurs

If someone else changed the list while you were editing, the app asks on saving or when ending edit mode how to proceed:

  • "Keep my changes" – your changes stay (still unsaved), you can review them and save again.
  • "Load current version" – the current version is loaded; your unsaved changes are lost in the process.

Good to know

  • Free texts (notes, "to do" texts) have no conflict protection: if two people edit the same text at the same time, the last saved input "wins".
