Basics

What the app is

The packing list generator turns a few details about your trip into a personalised packing list automatically. That list is just the starting point: you can then freely edit it, check items off, save, share, print and maintain it together with others. Using it is free and works without signing up or creating an account.

How a packing list is structured

A list is organised hierarchically:

  • Sections – the top level. A section is either of type "General" (applies to all travellers, e.g. shared gear) or of type "Person" (belongs to one specific traveller).
  • Categories – within a section (e.g. clothing, toiletries, documents).
  • Subcategories – optional finer grouping within a category.
  • Items – the individual entries with a quantity, status, optional notes and possibly a product recommendation.

The two modes

  • View mode (default): here you use the list day to day – check items off, set status, search, filter, see your progress.
  • Edit mode: here you change the structure and contents – add, rename, move or delete sections, categories and items.

You switch to edit mode with the "Edit" button and back with "Save". In edit mode, search, status filter and the progress bar are hidden because they don't apply there.

Languages

The app is available in German (default) and English. You can switch the language at any time using the language switcher (at the top of the home page).

Appearance (light/dark)

The app has a light and a dark theme. By default it automatically follows your device or browser setting (and updates when that changes). Using the light/dark toggle with the sun and moon icon (at the top of the home page and in the header of a displayed list) you can switch any time – but that choice only applies to the current visit: after reloading the page, the app follows the system again (so you always reliably land back at your device setting). Printouts are always light.

Good to know

  • There is no user account. Which lists are "yours" is only remembered locally on your current device. More on this under Limits & notes.
